About The Amos Bursary

The Amos Bursary (Estd.2009) is committed to assisting academically able British young men (16-24); from inner city schools with family connections to Africa and the Caribbean, to realise their full potential. We provide support and prepare them to access reputable universities. We also create opportunities to prepare them for the world of work, and to become future leaders.
The Amos Bursary selects young men at the age of 16 or 17 (1st or 2nd year of 6th Form) and they remain part of the Bursary throughout 6th Form and University. Young men of African and Caribbean heritage have been identified as the most underrepresented in higher education and in topflight professions. The Bursary provides them with access to a range of opportunities including internships and networking. Bursary students participate in personal and professional development programmes which encourage flexibility in their thinking, and give them the best social and professional skills to survive and thrive as young adults in a competitive academic world.
All undergraduates, except those awarded The Amos Bursary UCL Scholarship and BPP Scholarship, receive an annual bursary of £500.
Who Is Eligible?
You must be a British citizen, male of African/Caribbean heritage currently attending a state secondary school or sixth form college in London or Greater London. You need to be in Year 12 studying for Lower Sixth qualifications and intending to go to university in the United Kingdom.
You also need to qualify for Home Student status at a university in the United Kingdom and at least two of the following criteria are relevant to you:
- You attend a state school/academy/College in London
- You require financial support to attend University due to family circumstances.
- You are eligible for free school meals
- You have a limited tradition of attending University in the family
- You are receiving support from social services
- You come from a single parent family
- Any economic or social disadvantage (evidence required) not listed above
The Application Process:
- It is important that you read the guidance document fully before commencing the completion of your application.
- If shortlisted, you will be informed by 27th January 2016.
- Interviews will be held on either 13th or 14th February 2016.
- Dates or times of interviews cannot be changed.
- The interview panel will select the candidates who demonstrate the greatest academic potential and commitment to maximise opportunities made available by The Amos Bursary.
- Please note that interview dates cannot be changed if you are shortlisted. Please make sure you keep 13th and 14th February 2016 free.
- Successful applicants will be informed by 16th February 2016.
